Lexus to Launch Next-Gen BEV Models in 2026

Lexus has promised to introduce its next generation battery electric vehicle (BEV) in 2026 claiming a “revolutionary” modular vehicle body structure, a drastically changed production method and a renewed software platform.

The first concept model with the new platform will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October, the automaker has announced at its Lexus Showcase event. Its president, Takashi Watanabe, introduced a line-up of new Lexus models and also discussed the future direction of Lexus vehicle manufacturing and the company’s efforts to address the challenge of developing and promoting BEVs to help achieve a carbon-neutral society.

The model line-up displayed included the new LM, an option for chauffeur-driven vehicles while the LBX challenges the view that bigger-is-better with as a compact premium SUV specifically targeting the European market with its design. Models marketed outside western Europe include the GX, which combines genuine off-road capability with refined on-road luxury, and the TX which caters exclusively to US customers with three-row seating.

He also highlighted the automaker’s customer experience program in Japan aimed at the future practical application of the ROV Concept (Recreational Off-highway Vehicle), which features a Lexus-first hydrogen-burning ICE powertrain. The program’s goal is to offer a specialized driving experience not possible with regular passenger cars.

Lexus claims this is achieved through a compact body size and high off-road capabilities and, by using a hydrogen ICE, the ROV aims to strike a balance between environmental consideration and the organic of feeling an internal combustion powerplant.
