Ford Motor Co. taps a former General Motors Co. designer to assist in shaping its Lincoln luxury division into a “world-class” brand.

Max Wolff, 38, joins Lincoln as director of design, effective Jan. 3. Wolff most recently worked for GM’s Cadillac division, where he was responsible for exterior design.

During his tenure at GM, Wolff held key design positions in the U.S. with Cadillac, in Australia with GM Holden Ltd. and in Korea with GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co.

“Max’s drive, talent and knowledge of automotive design within the premium segment of the market make him a great addition to the global design team,” J Mays, Ford’s chief creative officer, says in a statement.

Ford says Lincoln’s future hallmarks will be “refined, modern design, the most fuel-efficient premium powertrains and industry-leading technology that create a unique driver experience both in the cabin and on the road.”

Over the next four years, Wolff will assist in reinventing Lincoln with the planned introduction of seven all-new or significantly refreshed vehicles and its first-ever C-segment vehicle.

Wolff will report to Moray Callum, Ford’s executive director of design-The Americas.
