Ford looks Down Under for an interior-design manager for its Lincoln luxury brand, naming Australia vehicle designer Peter Jones to the job starting next month.

Jones, who will be based in Dearborn, MI, has worked in the design studios at Ford Australia for seven years. Besides his most recent work as interior-design manager for the all-new Ranger pickup truck, he also was lead exterior designer on the FG Falcon Ute pickup.

Ford Asia-Pacific and Africa Design Director Christopher Svensson says Ford’s internal global-design competitions involving key new One Ford programs has highlighted a wealth of talented designers around the world.

“The natural evolution of this process is to rotate key talent throughout our Global Design Studios,” he says in a statement.

Jones will not be the only Australian working on Lincoln design in the U.S. Max Wolff is Lincoln’s director of design, having moved over to the luxury brand in January 2011.

“Peter’s appointment not only proves that Australian know-how is highly regarded within Ford, but also shows that highly accomplished Australian university graduates can confidently compete on the global automotive stage,” Svensson says.
