Maserati unveils its third battery-electric vehicle, the GranCabrio Folgore drop-top sports car, at its Modena, Italy headquarters.

Revealed during a spectacular sound and vision event at sunset, an ominous timing considering the global slowdown in the BEV market, the event dubbed Folgore Day tells us more about the collection of celebrities presenting the model than the vehicle itself.

In fact, the automaker tells us absolutely nothing about the car’s performance or range although it’s safe to assume it will be similar to the existing tin-top GranTurismo Folgore. That car’s powertrain boasts three electric motors making 751 hp and 996 lb.-ft. (1,350 Nm) of torque. Its Achilles heel is a curb weight of more than 5,100 lbs. (2,313 kg), which will affect its cornering dynamic. However, it is still able to claim a 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h) although the convertible’s may be a little less than that. Prices are being suggested at around $220,000.

The only consumer-facing information is that Maserati’s BEV range will be joined by the MC20 Folgore super sports car set to debut in 2025.
