Mazda North American Operations says a Mazda6 will be the 3 millionth vehicle built at its joint venture Auto Alliance International Inc. (AAI) plant with Ford Motor Co. in Flat Rock, MI.

Mazda says it will donate the car, a 5-door Mazda6 in Volcanic Red, to Hurricane Katrina victims via Habitat for Humanity of New Orleans.

AAI, which also builds the Ford Mustang, raised $25,000 last year for victims of the hurricane.

Mazda began building cars at Flat Rock in 1987, when the plant was known as Mazda Motor Mfg. (USA) Corp. The joint venture with Ford was formed in 1992, at which time the name was changed to AAI.
