The global premiere of the Takeri, a concept pointing the way to Mazda’s next-generation midsize sedan, is set for this year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

The exhibition, which opens to the public Dec. 3, also will see the Japan debut of a new Mazda CX-5 cross/utility vehicle.

Both models are equipped with a full array of Mazda's new Skyactiv technology, which includes fuel-efficient gasoline and clean-diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions and new body and chassis designs.

The 2.0L Skyactiv-G gasoline engine produces 10% to 15% more low/mid-range torque, along with 15% lower fuel consumption and emissions than Mazda’s previous 2.0L engine.

The Takeri also features a new regenerative braking system that converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration, stores it in capacitors and then uses it to power the vehicle's accessories, reducing load on the engine and saving fuel.

Takeri concept, complete with Skyactiv technology.
