Daimler Taps Xilinx for AI Solutions for Mercedes Models
Applications will use Xilinx’s scalable automotive platform said to feature low latency and state-of-the-art power efficiency.
German luxury-car builder Daimler will work with Xilinx, a Silicon Valley developer, on in-car systems employing artificial intelligence.
The applications will be built on Xilinx’s automotive platform that consists of system-on-a-chip devices and AI acceleration software. The technology will be scalable, meaning it can work across a broad range of Mercedes vehicles.
It also will deliver high performance, low latency and state-of-the-art power efficiency, Xilinx says.
Mercedes-Benz R&D centers in Sindelfingen, Germany, and Bangalore, India, will implement their AI algorithms on the Xilinx platform. Mercedes-Benz will productize Xilinx’s AI processor technology, enabling the most efficient execution of its neural networks, the companies say.
The partners did not reveal what specific applications will be developed in a release announcing the collaboration.
“We are accelerating our product development using AI technology by engaging our global development centers with Xilinx experts,” says Georges Massing, director-User Interaction and Software for Daimler. “Through this strategic collaboration, Xilinx is providing technology that will enable us to deliver very low latency and power-efficient solutions for vehicle systems which must operate in thermally constrained environments.”
