These are not the typical high school dream cars scribbled in the back of a notebook. Future designers, engineers, marketers and executives put together a full product development plan for DaimlerChrysler's Build Your Own Dreamcar Competition. The winners: The X-Caliber, a hybrid gas-electric sports sedan designed by Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach, Fla., took home the top prize of $5,000. Other entries included several hybrid vehicles and a car especially designed for the handicapped by a team from William Fremd High School in Palatine, IL. The midsize sedan features a wheelchair lift with titanium clips to lock the driver's wheelchair in place and an adaptable steering wheel that can be used by drivers with limited mobility. The team's marketing team estimates the vehicle would cost $38,000.
