A top Mercedes-Benz executive leaves a leading post after 34 years.
The German auto maker announces that Joachim Schmidt, executive vice president-sales and marketing, is retiring at age 65.
Schmidt served as a member of the board of management for Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler. His other day-to-day duties include managing the worldwide national companies and the Mercedes’ executive committee on sales and marketing, which handles the passenger car, van and truck lines.
Schmidt’s duties transfer to Ola Källenius, who is currently head of AMG. The auto maker will announce Källenius’ successor at a later date.
