BMW’s Mini marque adds a seventh model to its lineup with the planned Paris world debut of its new Paceman.

Joining the Paceman on the auto show stand will be an upscale performance model, the John Cooper Works GP, which the auto maker says is the fastest Mini ever built.

Billed as the first sports activity coupe in the premium-compact segment, the 2-door Paceman will be offered with a choice of two gasoline and two diesel engines, ranging in output from 112 hp to 184 hp. All will be available with an optional 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. A sport-tuned suspension is standard.

The wagon-like model is 157.5 ins. (400.0 cm) long overall and provides the Paceman with cargo-hauling capacity ranging from 11.7- to 38.1-cu.-ft. (330-1,080 L) with the rear seats folded.

The Mini John Cooper Works GP is powered by a turbocharged 4-cyl. engine rated at 218 hp. It takes the 2-seater from a standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.3 seconds and can reach 150 mph (242 km/h), the highest top speed ever recorded by a series-produced Mini, BMW says.

The performance car also features an adjustable suspension, beefed-up brakes, a stability-control system with race mode, special alloy wheels and sport tires. Rear seats have been removed to cut weight.

Available later this year, the Mini John Cooper Works GP model will be limited to a production run of 2,000 units.
