Nissan North America Inc. announces its upcoming ’07 Altima Hybrid midsize sedan only will be sold in eight U.S. states.
Ward’s first reported the Altima Hybrid launch would not be national nearly two years ago.
The states where the Altima Hybrid will be sold are: California, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine and New Jersey.
Nissan also says it will mate an electric motor to the Altima’s smaller, 2.5L 4-cyl. gasoline engine, not the 3.5L V-6. It does not specify fuel economy but says the vehicle will meet the stringent emission requirements of the eight states.
The transmission will be a continuously variable-type, Nissan says.
The Altima Hybrid will be built at Nissan’s Smyrna, TN, plant.
