Nissan Launches Production of All-New 2022 Frontier Pickup
The all-new Frontier arrives in dealer showrooms throughout the U.S. and Canada in late summer.
Nissan launches production of the all-new ’22 Nissan Frontier compact pickup at its Canton (MS) Vehicle Assembly Plant.
The Frontier has been built at Canton since 2012, with its engine produced at the Nissan Decherd Powertrain Plant in Decherd, TN.
Nissan is using enhanced applications of collaborative robot (or cobot) technology to assemble the ’22 Frontier. The technology is being used to assist with a number of jobs to ensure repetitive tasks are done the same way every time, increasing overall operational efficiency, improving safety performance, causing less strain on workers and producing better vehicle quality for customers.
“Before integrating more cobot technology into our process, workers were tied to their stations, reducing valuable time that could be used to work directly on the vehicle,” Orlando Valree, director-production engineering and new model quality at the Canton plant, says in a news release. “Human touch in the manufacturing process remains a critical component of high-quality output, and this technology helps us achieve that.”
The ’22 Frontier’s all-new rugged exterior design features a powerful front end with a massive grille and chiseled hood, framed by new precision interlocking headlights. Every Frontier, whether standard rear-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive, is equipped with a standard 3.8L direct-injection V-6 producing 310 hp that is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The pickup’s interior includes a standard 7-in. (18-cm) advanced driver assist display and an available 9-in. (23-cm) color touchscreen. Standard technology includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with wi-fi and wireless charging available. Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of six active safety technologies, is available on every trim.
