Nissan Takes Wraps Off ’19 Navara Pickup

MADRID – Nissan unveils its ’19 Navara pickup, described by Paolo d’Ettore, Nissan light-commercial vehicles manager for Europe, as “the strongest, most efficient and smartest Navara in history.” 

The Navara will be assembled in Spain, China, Mexico, Thailand and Argentina. It goes on sale in July in Spain, followed by other Western European markets. 

Under the hood is a 2.3L dCi diesel that complies with Euro 6d-TEMP emissions, reduces carbon-dioxide emissions 10% and, in its less powerful version, generates 163 hp. A turbocharger increases maximum torque 16 lb.-ft. (22 Nm) to 332 lb.-ft. (450 Nm). The ratios of the manual gearbox have been changed to improve fuel consumption and ride comfort. 

The suspension geometry has been modified for the front axle, providing greater load capacity with less steering effort needed. 

The multi-link five-arm rear suspension replaces a leaf-spring suspension and as a consequence the height of the unloaded vehicle is increased 1 in. (25 mm) and load capacity rises 297 lbs. (135 kg). 

Disc brakes have been introduced on the rear wheels, reducing braking distance 15%, according to Nissan engineers. 

Inside, the ’19 Navara features the new NissanConnect information and entertainment system that includes a new 8-in. (20-cm) screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and the Nissan Connected Services app for controlling the vehicle remotely.
