Nissan North America Inc. announces it will be unveiling a new cross/utility vehicle called the Rogue at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit January 7.

No further details were provided on the Rogue, such as what type of engine it will offer or where it will be built. A Nissan spokesman says it is a production model.

Nissan offers one CUV already, the midsize Murano, in the U.S. It does not offer a small CUV to compete with the popular Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

Recently, Nissan unveiled its small Qashqai CUV for the European market. No word on whether the Rogue is a version of it.
