Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. will retail in Japan a version of Mazda Motor Corp.’s Mazda5/Premacy multipurpose vehicle starting this May.
The two auto makers announced the deal today, an expansion of an existing relationship that already has Nissan receiving Mazda’s Bongo van and truck (sold as the Nissan Vanette) and Mazda getting Nissan’s AD/AD Expert van (sold as the Mazda Familia).
“Under this agreement, Mazda will supply a clearly differentiated version of the Premacy to Nissan for sale in Japan,” Mazda says of the new deal. “Mazda and its affiliates expect to enjoy increased profits resulting from the growth in production.”
Mazda says it sells the Mazda5/Premacy in 60 countries and regions, noting total production volume from March 1999 to December 2010 is more than 885,000 units.
