Mongolia Newest Asian Market for Peugeot
The brand’s first dealership will open this year in the capital city of Ulan Bator. Most of the initial offerings will be 208, 3008, 4008 and 508 models.
VIENNA – PSA Peugeot Citroen enters the Mongolian market with the Peugeot brand.
Yves Delaunay, the French ambassador to Mongolia, joins executives with the French auto maker and the Mongolian company Baz International for the Peugeot presentation at the French Embassy in the capital Ulan Bator.
Peugeot has named Baz International its importer and distributor in Mongolia. The Mongolian company also has interests in education, technology, program provision, construction, mining, media and marketing.
The first Peugeot dealership, located in the center of the Mongolian capital, will open in the year’s second half. The auto maker at first mainly will offer 208, 3008, 4008 and 508 models in the country.
As the brand starts with a white sheet of paper in Mongolia, it expects to sell “several hundred units in a full year,” a Peugeot spokesman tells WardsAuto.
The launch in Mongolia is the latest step in Peugeot’s recent expansion in Asia. In October 2012, the Peugeot brand was launched in the Philippines, with two dealerships inaugurated in February.
In March, Peugeot announced its foray into the Nepal market. In the same month, PSA and Kazakh company AgromashHolding signed an agreement for the assembly and distribution of Peugeot cars and light-commercial vehicles in Kazakhstan.
In April, Peugeot said it plans to re-enter the Vietnamese market after several decades in cooperation with local vehicle maker Thaco. The project includes imports of completely built-up vehicles as well as assembly of the Peugeot 408 sedan.
