PSA’s first pickup due out in fourth quarter.

MADRID – French automaker PSA will offer its first pickup truck, the Peugeot Landtrek 2020, in the fourth quarter of this year.

Designed to compete against compact pickups such as the Mitsubishi L200 and Toyota HiLux, the Landtrek 2020 will be offered in cab chassis, single-cab and double-cab versions. It will be available in 2-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations, each with available rear differential lock with automatic disconnect.

The double-cab is 17.5 ft. (5,300 mm) long with a load box 5.3 ft. (1,630 mm) long, while the single-cab is 17.7 ft. (5,390 mm) with a load box 8.0 ft. (2,430 mm) in length. The payload can reach 2,640 lbs. (1,200 kg) and towing capacity is 7,700 lbs. (3,500 kg)

Two engines will be offered initially: a 1.9L turbocharged diesel making 150 hp and 258 lb.-ft. (350 Nm) of torque, and a 2.4L gasoline version generating 210 hp and 236 lb.-ft. (320 Nm) of torque. Both come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, while an automatic gearbox with a torque converter also is available with the gasoline engine.

Inside, a 10-in. (25.4-cm) touchscreen controls a multimedia system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has USB sockets, Bluetooth connectivity and a 10-gb hard drive.

The Landtrek 2020 features hill-descent control, traction control and Trailer Swing Control, which activates when the trailer knife effect is detected. Audible and visual lane-departure warning is available, as are up to four cameras to facilitate city, highway and off-road maneuvering.

While PSA says the Landtrek 2020 won’t compete against midsize pickups such as the Ford Ranger, Mercedes X-Class or Volkswagen Amarok, the automaker appears to be following VW’s lead by initially marketing the Peugeot model only in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.
