Porsche will unveil its 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid-electric sports car at the Frankfurt auto show this month.
The debut marks the first PHEV sports car for the German auto maker. The model offers an 887-hp mill, but promises a silent powertrain common for electric vehicles. Fuel consumption rates between 71.3-78.4 mpg (3.0-3.3 L/100km), the auto maker says.
The 918 Spyder is presented as a “50 years 911” model to commemorate the golden anniversary of the 911 sports car.
Porsche also will show a plug-in hybridized Panamera sedan and a diesel-powered Panamera, the latter of which will not be available in the U.S., at its Frankfurt display.
