Colorado SUV matches pickup variant’s maximum 5-star rating.

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program premieres at the Australian International Motor Show by announcing maximum 5-star results for the new Toyota Corolla hatchback, Honda CR-V and GM Holden Colorado 7 SUV.

The Corolla 5-door hatchback debuting in Australia at the show is equipped with seven airbags and an emergency-brake signal that automatically activates the hazard lights during emergency braking to alert trailing vehicles as standard on all variants. The Corolla achieved an “acceptable” pedestrian-protection rating.

Also launching at the show that ended Sunday is the SUV adaptation of GM Holden’s Colorado pickup, the Colorado 7, badged elsewhere as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer.

After the Colorado crew-cab variants earning the 5-star ANCAP safety rating earlier this year, the Colorado 7 also has achieved the top ANCAP rating. As with the pickup, the SUV also achieved an “acceptable” pedestrian rating.

The new fourth-generation Honda CR-V compact cross/utility vehicle has improved on its previous safety rating, rising to five stars. A backup camera is standard, while safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping-assist technologies will be introduced for some variants from 2013.

The CR-V achieved a “marginal” pedestrian protection rating.

The latest ratings bring the number of 5-star vehicles tested and listed on the ANCAP website to almost 200.
