Detroit-based InvisaGuard LLC is venturing into the aftermarket with its theft-deterring High Security Glass (HSG) window kit.

Developed with assistance from DuPont Automotive and PPG Industries, InvisaGuard HSG is a factory replacement high-strength laminated side-window glass designed to resist blunt object penetration and reduce break-ins.

“Today's luxury SUVs and upscale trucks are not only very expensive to buy, but are also frequently equipped with numerous high-ticket options and accessories that catch the eye of would-be thieves looking to make a quick buck,” InvisaGuard President Glenn Stafford says.

HSG centers around DuPont's SentryGlas Plus interlayer. The high-strength film is sandwiched between two sheets of normal tempered glass to form a barrier that is significantly more rigid and tear-resistant than conventional laminated glass, DuPont says.

HSG is not impenetrable, nor is it bulletproof. But InvisaGuard says the increased time needed to break the window should be enough to deter thieves. The supplier claims a 2-4 minute break-in time.

Initially, InvisaGuard is aiming its product at owners of General Motors Corp.'s GMT800 line of fullsize SUVs and trucks.
