UMW Toyota plans to spend RM500 million ($152.4 million) this year to expand its nationwide retail network nationwide as it works to reach its 100,000-unit sales target.

With demand rising for Toyota and Lexus vehicles, UMW will open new outlets and refurbish and upgrade existing facilities, the government’s Bernama news agency reports.

UMW Toyota has held the top position in the non-national segment for 24 consecutive years.

“We are committed to delivering high-quality products and excellent service to reaffirm our position as the country's top selling non-national brand,” UMW President Ismet Suki is quoted as saying.

UMW Toyota now has 99 Toyota and Lexus sales and after-sales service outlets.

“We strongly believe that the automotive industry will continue to grow, thus we will continue to strengthen our operations to meet our sales target of more than 100,000 units this year in order to achieve the market share of close to 15%,” he says.

UMW earlier reported second-quarter market share for Toyota, including Lexus, was 15.8%. Toyota sold 26,937 units in the quarter, up from 23,610 year-ago. Lexus sales of 367 units were down from 287.
