Rolls-Royce to Double Production Capacity After Bumper Sales Year
Luxury automaker commits to $375 million expansion plan for its Goodwood plant to meet growing demand for its hand-built cars.
As Rolls-Royce reveals a bumper sales year with 5,712 of its bespoke-built cars delivered last year, it promises a £300 million ($375 million) investment into its U.K. factory doubling potential capacity.
The BMW-owned luxury automaker draws from its 120-year history of building vehicles for the highest of high-end markets and has seen growing sales in major global markets including the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and China. Its top-selling models in 2024 were Cullinan, Spectre and Ghost.
Following its third-largest volume sales year, the company will now extend its manufacturing facility at Goodwood, near the south coast of England, planning to raise production capacity to meet growing demand for its cars.
The extension will also ready the manufacturing facility for the marque’s transition to an all-battery-electric-vehicle future.
At present the plant produces up to 28 vehicles a day and employs more than 2,500 individuals as well as about 7,500 people in the company’s wider U.K. supply chain contributing about £500 million ($626 million) to the country’s economy annually.
Speaking to the BBC Business TV program, chief executive Chris Brownridge says: “Whilst we make motor cars, we produce hand-made luxury goods using great craftsmanship and artistry. What we are seeing is growing demand for more bespoke motor cars which is why we are investing in the U.K.
“We are also opening up private offices around the world, such as the ones in Dubai and Shanghai, and more recently we opened in Seoul and New York. These can help a client work directly with one of our designers to really bring to life the Rolls-Royce of their dreams.
“I talk to our clients every day, either in person or through our digital platform which is called Whispers, and the cost of entry is that you need to buy a Rolls-Royce but once you’re in that very exclusive club you have access to everybody within Goodwood. That’s what makes Rolls-Royce a very special luxury experience for our clients.”
