MADRID – Spanish automaker SEAT revamps its Leon range, adding new features and more technology and functionality.

The lineup is led by the extensively upgraded Leon Cupra, which SEAT calls the most powerful model it ever has made. The hatchback’s 2.0L TSI engine generates 290 hp and 380 lb.-ft. (515 Nm) of torque between 1,800 and 3,500 rpm. A 1.6L TDI diesel engine making 115 hp will be available for the entire Leon range, including the Cupra.

To augment the Cupra’s new power, adaptive chassis control, progressive steering system and electronic self-locking differential are standard.

There are five driver-mode settings: comfort, sport, eco, individual and Cupra. The last is defined by SEAT as the ultimate in sports car performance.

Key exterior changes include redesigned bumpers and grille, with improved LED headlights that offer longer reach and greater light intensity. The wider indicators are fully integrated with the daytime lights, and both the rear lights and fog lights also use the new LED technology.

Inside, the main features include an electric hand brake and a keyless access and start system. The interior lights, also LED, can be adjusted to eight different colors. The central console has a wireless mobile-phone charger and an 8-in. (20-cm) touchscreen with the latest connectivity technology and advanced driver-assistance systems.

The Cupra shares much of the ADAS technology with the Leon Ateca SUV, including new-generation cameras and radar sensors integrated for pedestrian protection and emergency assist. A traffic sign recognition system that can more precisely identify a larger number of traffic signs also is available.

SEAT offers new colors and new alloy wheels across the entire Leon range.

Volkswagen Group-owned SEAT adds the new Leon range to its distribution network in January, except for the 300-hp Cupra launching in February.
