VIENNA – Skoda Auto will unveil the Skoda MissionL at next week’s Frankfurt auto show, a 5-door hatchback concept the auto maker describes as a “close-to-production-design concept (that) reveals the look of Skoda’s sixth model line.”

Near-production MissionL to be Skoda’s sixth model line.

The production-ready concept is the forerunner to what Skoda insiders have referred to as the Compact Limousine and earlier was known as the A-Entry.

“Revealing the look of our new compact model, the MissionL shows exactly the direction our brand is going to take,” Skoda Chairman Winfried Vahland says in a statement. “The world premiere in Frankfurt gives a clear signal that Skoda is going full steam ahead now.”

Production of the car, which is to be positioned between the Fabia and Octavia, will start in 2012. In addition to Czech Republic, the car is expected to be manufactured in Russia and China.

The Indian market will have its own version, a compact sedan, Skoda says.

Parent Volkswagen Group reportedly is considering production of a SEAT-badged version of the car in Mexico.
