Flexibility is the promise of Stellantis' fullsize SUV and pickup truck platform coming soon for the Ram and Jeep brands.

Stellantis reveals its STLA Frame vehicle platform for fullsize pickup trucks and SUVs compatible with multi-energy powertrains and to be debuted by its Jeep and Ram brands.

The automaker says the body-on-frame vehicle sector is “a critical segment in North America and select global markets.”

This platform targets consumers with towing, power and durability requirements and claims a class-leading range of up to 690 miles (1,104 km) with range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) powertrains and 500 miles (805 km) in battery-electric vehicle versions.

It also claims a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 lbs. (6,350 kg) and a payload rating of 2,700 lbs. (1,224 kg). Additionally, the platform supports water fording up to 24 ins. (610 mm) to handle serious off-road working environments.

Stellantis also claims the STLA Frame for future models can accommodate internal-combustion, hybrid and hydrogen propulsion systems.

Its REEV system combines a battery, front and rear electric motors, onboard generator and an internal-combustion engine. With no direct mechanical path from the engine to the wheels, the generator powers the electric motors and recharges the battery when needed.

STLA Frame for BEVs has a widened center section to house a battery pack, with reinforced frame rails that protect the battery in the event of a side impact and a full-length belly pan that reduces aerodynamic drag to help maximize driving range.

Unveiling the platform, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares says: “Like STLA Medium and STLA Large, STLA Frame combines an unprecedented range with new levels of capability and performance to offer best-in-class range, payload and towing for our customers who need reliable and powerful trucks and SUVs, to haul their families or power their businesses. With full EV and extended-range EV tech coming soon, we’re bringing ‘no compromise’ solutions to buyers who may be hesitant about trying their first electric vehicle. We’re proud of this engineering marvel and look forward to seeing it come to life in our upcoming product blitz on Jeep and Ram.”
