Stellantis reveals its STLA Medium platform, a modular structure that is set to underpin up to 2 million vehicles per year, according to the multinational automaker.

Conceived for C- and D-segment vehicles between 169.3 ins. (4,300 mm) and 192.9 ins. (4,900 mm) in length, the STLA Medium offers traditional internal-combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid and all-electric functionality, allowing it to be used in a wide variety of vehicles.

It will feature in a number of upcoming models, including the replacements for the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Peugeot 3008 due in 2024.

The successor to Stellantis’ EMP2 platform is also planned to support both front- and all-wheel drive and wheelbases ranging from 106.3 ins. (2,700 mm) to 114.2 ins. (2,900 mm).

The all-electric version of the STLA Medium platform is based on a 400V electrical architecture, although Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares says it has been engineered to accept a more advanced 800V system in the future. It is also designed to accept standard and long-range batteries.

Its ability to accommodate a 98.0-kWh battery will provide STLA Medium-based vehicles with an electric range of “about 435 miles” (700 km) on the European WLTP test cycle, says Tavares.

Stellantis previously announced plans for four global vehicle platforms: the STLA Small, Medium, Large and Frame.

Formed in 2021 in a 50:50 joint venture between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the PSA Group, Stellantis is the parent company to 16 different brands, including Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Mopar, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall.
