DETROIT – After being shut out of the annual North American Car and Truck of the Year awards last year by Hyundai and Land Rover, the Detroit Three are back in the hunt.
General Motors, Ford and Chrysler each have models that are finalists in the widely followed awards, as do Honda and Mazda.
GM’s Cadillac ATS sport sedan is a finalist in the car category, along with the Ford Fusion and Honda Accord.
Chrysler’s Ram1500 fullsize pickup is a finalist in the truck/utility category, along with the Ford C-Max hybrid and Mazda CX-5 cross/utility vehicles.
The finalists were chosen from a group that originally included 30 new cars and 15 new trucks, including numerous luxury vehicles from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus.
The NACTOY awards are unique because, instead of being given out by a specific group or media outlet, they are chosen by 49 automotive journalists representing a wide variety of media.
