It’s finally here. Tesla Motors CEO and Founder Elon Musk began delivering Cybertrucks to the first group of owners on Nov. 30. And he did it via livestream on his X social media platform.
The Tesla pickup truck may well be the most anticipated product launch since the production Volkswagen New Beetle went on sale in 1998, having been shown at auto shows in 1994.
The Cybertruck, with its Marvel Comics design and impractical stainless-steel exterior, has been derided for months in social media as rough-looking test vehicles have been spotted running around Austin, TX, and elsewhere.
The truck was first shown four years ago and its market debut has been delayed for two years. Even now, Musk says high-volume production won’t ramp up until sometime in 2025 because of the difficulty of manufacturing the futuristic truck.
WardsAuto Podcast Host and Senior Editor David Kiley discusses the Cybertruck with Stephanie Brinley, associate director of auto industry research and analysis at S&P Global.
What they discuss: The ownership experience of the Cybertruck; who the buyers are going to be – the Teslarati, so-called “lovers of the new”? People who would otherwise buy sports cars, Cadillac Escalades or muscle cars?
All that and more, as we discuss the truck everyone has been talking about.
