Nissan drops its venerable 3.5L V-6 in favor of a 2.0L variable-compression turbo I-4 and refines its in-cabin user experience with the unveiling of its fourth-generation 2025 Nissan Murano premium CUV.

The powerplant appears to be a slightly detuned version of the engine seen in the Nissan Altima, being a VC-Turbo rated at 241 hp but with 260 lb.-ft. (353 Nm) of torque, an increase of 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm) compared to the outgoing Murano V-6. It’s paired with a 9-speed, paddle-shifted automatic transmission.

Its powertrain is offered with front-wheel drive or intelligent all-wheel drive as standard on SL and Platinum grade models. The new Murano is rated to tow up to 1,500 lbs. (680 kg).

A redesign of both exterior and interior sees sleek aerodynamic bodywork made more dramatic with the option of 21-in. wheels, full-width LED taillights and available two-tone paintwork.

Interior highlights include extensive use of soft-touch detailed materials, dual, high-definition 12.3-in. (31-cm) displays, 64-color ambient lighting and massaging front seats.

Advanced driver-assistance systems include Nissan Safety Shield 360, ProPILOT Assist and ProPILOT Assist 1.1, walking up the range, plus two new-to-Murano camera technologies including Invisible Hood View, which allows a virtual view through the engine bay for precise navigation, and 3D Around View Monitor, which provides eight virtual vantage points around the vehicle when parking or maneuvering.

Cargo practicality comes in the shape of a 60/40 split flat-folding second row, offering 32.9 cu.-ft. (932 L) of storage with the seats raised and 63.5 cu.-ft. (1,798 L) with them lowered. A power liftgate is standard, with Platinum adding a motion-activated power liftgate.

The 2025 Murano will reach dealerships early next year.
