DETROIT – Ford’s popular Maverick compact pickup gets a midcycle refresh for 2025 that includes a key upgrade that’s been on buyers’ wish lists since the truck was introduced in 2021: all-wheel drive for the mpg-leading hybrid version.

The front-drive-based, body-on-frame Maverick has been a hit for the Dearborn automaker, posting 94,000 sales in 2023 and 77,000 already this year, with more than half equipped with the standard 2.5L inline 4-cyl., single-motor parallel hybrid powertrain, Maverick brand manager James Gilpin says.

Kirk Leonard, vehicle integration manager, estimates 40 mpg (5.8 L/100 km) city for the AWD version of the truck, just 2 mpg (0.8 L/100 km) less than the front-drive hybrid. The FWD hybrid also posts EPA ratings of 33 mpg (7.1 L/100 km) highway and 37 mpg (6.4 L/100 km) combined.

The hybrid produces 191 hp and 155 lb.-ft. (210 Nm) of torque, enough to tow 2,000 lbs. (907 kg) and up to 4,000 lbs. (1,814 kg) when equipped with a 4K Towing Package.

Payload is rated at 1,400 lbs. (635 kg), 100 lbs. (45 kg) less than the front-drive hybrid.

The optional, non-hybrid option is a turbocharged 2.0L inline 4-cyl. producing 238 hp and 277 lb.-ft. (376 Nm) of torque, hitched to an 8-speed automatic, with similar towing and cargo ratings.

Inside, the 2025 model upgrades from an 8.0-in. (20.3-cm) information screen to a standard 13.2-in. (33.5-cm) viewer, featuring SYNC 4 technology and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A 360-degree camera view aids in tight parking situations, while trailer assistance options – Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist – are available.

Exterior updates include grilles that differentiate trim levels – XL, XLT, Lariat and Tremor – along with new bumper and headlamp treatments. A Black Appearance package also makes its debut.

Ford will begin delivering 2025 Mavericks late this year, starting at $27,890 (including $1,595 destination and handling charges) for the standard hybrid front-drive model.
