The Lamborghini Temerario completes the brand's hybrid offering.

Lamborghini claims to be the first luxury carmaker to offer hybrid-electrified powertrains across its range with the launch of the new Temerario hypercar.

The model replaces the outgoing Lamborghini Huracán and features a new twin-turbo 4.0L gasoline V-8 plus three electric motors as part of its hybrid powertrain. The system claims a total power output of 907 hp at up to 9,750 rpm and maximum torque of 538 lb.-ft. (729 Nm) at between 4,000-7,000 rpm.

Resulting performance claims include the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time in just 2.7 seconds on the way to a top speed of more than 210 mph (338 km/h). This makes the Temerario the brand’s second-fastest hybrid model behind the flagship 6.5L V-12 hybrid Revuelto.

The Lamborghini Temerario, whose Italian name loosely refers to a daredevil, also debuts a totally aluminum spaceframe chassis and body resulting in a claimed dry weight for the vehicle of 3,726 lbs. (1,690 kg).

It uses new high-strength alloy for high-pressure castings, high-strength hydroformed extrusions and an increased number of hollow castings with thin closed inertia profiles, introduced on only the rear frame of the Revuelto, achieved through the use of internal cores.

Stephan Winkelmann, chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, says: “Every new Lamborghini must surpass its forerunners in performance terms. With the Temerario, the new hybrid plug-in reaches a new paradigm in terms of performance, sportiness and driving pleasure. The Temerario is the first and only production super sports car engine able to reach 10,000 rpm, a feat typically only achieved in motorsports.

“With the Temerario, we’ve exceeded our expectations with what the mid-engine sports car can be in terms of performance and design. The Temerario completes the next chapter in our Direzione Cor Tauri plan by hybridizing the full product line, while we continue the development of our full electric model debuting at the end of the decade.”

Prices, global market availability and fuel consumption data will be announced later in the year.
