Lancia Gamma Detail 2024
Lancia Gamma returns as the flagship model for Italian iconic brand.

Lancia’s upcoming executive-class Gamma model is slated to begin production in 2026 at the Stellantis production plant in Melfi, Italy.

The automaker revisits the model name last seen on the brand’s flagship vehicle made between 1976 and 1984. The new car is expected to become Lancia’s luxury E-segment competitor.

It will be based on Stellantis’ STLA Medium multi-energy platform and is expected to be offered in a variety of powertrain options including gas hybrid and full battery-electric assuming consumer demand bounces back from the current slowdown in uptake for the technology.

The new model will be designed and developed exclusively in Italy. The Melfi plant, which was home of the second generation of the Lancia Ypsilon produced between 1995 and 2003, was chosen for its high production quality and its strategic role in the transition to electric mobility, the company says.

Inaugurated in 1994, the Melfi plant is also responsible for producing the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade. It claims a highly automated production processes and a strong focus on sustainability.

Located in Basilicata, Melfi is viewed as a cornerstone of national and international automotive production, blending Italian artistry with the most advanced manufacturing technologies.

Stellantis says the Italian focus of the new model underlines its commitment to promoting Italian-made products as a clear response to Italian government criticism that the automaker has been producing too much of its Italian-branded models abroad.

Luca Napolitano, Lancia CEO, says: “The new Lancia Gamma represents a milestone in our journey towards the future. It embodies our brand’s commitment to sustainability and high performance while celebrating the unmistakable elegance that has defined Lancia for decades. By producing it at the historic Melfi plant, we are strengthening our connection to Italy’s rich automotive heritage and advancing our vision for an electrified future. Gamma will showcase the best of what Lancia stands for: innovation, style, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”
