Maserati brings its GT2 racing car to the road, resulting in the highest-performing model in its range to date.

The automaker pulls the wraps off the Maserati GT2 Stradale with an uprated version of its Neptune engine while shaving 132 lbs. (60 kg) from the MC20 base car’s dry weight.

The twin turbocharged 3.0L gasoline V-6 has been boosted by 10 hp to 640 hp at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque output of 531 lb.-ft. (720 Nm) from 3,000 rpm.

With a dry weight at now 3,119 lbs. (1,415 kg), the power-to-weight ratio is 210 hp per liter, the combustion chamber compression ratio is 11:1 and the stroke is 82x88 mm.

Claimed performance for the rear-wheel drive car is a 0-to-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed in excess of 198 mph (319 km/h).

The Maserati GT2 Stradale claims direct parallels in track-day handling and aerodynamics and aesthetic design inherited from its racing sibling.

It also offers a wide range of optional extras to choose from, with packages dedicated to improving performance; the quest for a bolder, aggressive aesthetic; the exclusive Fuoriserie content; and specific configurations, although availability varies between markets.

Says Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO: “Maserati GT2 Stradale is a unique product, bringing together as it does the brand's greatest sporting heritage, and at the same time representing evolution of one of Maserati's most iconic vehicles, the MC20 halo car.

"This model, intended for everyday driving, was created based on the desire to offer our customers more and more in terms of technical mastery, innovation, design and emotions in road driving: On the one hand, we find sophisticated solutions reserved for models designed for track use only, the epitome of Maserati's racing DNA; on the other, we can guarantee optimal comfort paired with all the most advanced driver assistance systems."
