Nissan Patrol Ups the Power With Twin-Turbo V-6 Gas ICE
Most powerful Patrol to date offers adaptive air suspension and six instantly switchable terrain drive modes.
Nissan unveils its seventh generation Patrol in the deserts of Abu Dhabi as it continues its charm offensive in the lucrative Middle East market for luxury performance SUVs.
The new Patrol’s highlights include a more powerful twin-turbocharged V-6, a 9-speed automatic transmission and adaptive air suspension. Technology features include NissanConnect 2.0 powered by Google, ProPilot Assist and Klipsch Premium Audio System, plus what it claims are industry-leading cabin comfort features.
Its powertrain is unsurprisingly, in an oil-rich region, a traditional internal-combustion engine featuring in what Nissan says is the most powerful Patrol model yet seen.
Its new 3.5L twin-turbocharged V-6 claims a maximum power output of 425 hp and 516 ft.-lb. (700 Nm) of torque. This motor manages a 7% hike in total power and 25% more torque over its predecessor’s naturally aspirated 5.6L V-8 along with better fuel economy.
The motor features a high heat-resistant turbocharger and scavenge oil pump ensuring consistent lubrication on slopes and inclines, delivering reliable performance across all terrains. It’s also available in a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter form claiming 316 hp and 284 ft.-lb. of torque.
Its adaptive air suspension system is available as standard and adjusts ride height demanding on road or off-road environments. It can also aid passenger entry and exit, as well as convenient loading and unloading of luggage.
There are six drive modes to choose from: standard, sand, rock, mud/rut, eco and sport. The new Patrol also introduces an all- wheel-drive transfer mode interlock system, allowing a seamless switch between modes for immediate changes in terrain.
Among the most idiosyncratic features of the model is its Puddle Lamp, which auto-activates individual lighting elements as the occupants approach the vehicle with the key fob or unlock the doors to avoid stepping into hidden hazards. The lamp also illuminates a motif featuring the iconic Nissan Patrol silhouette and the text “Since 1951” signifying the SUV’s production history.
Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida says: “The seventh generation is a bold leap forward, blending unparalleled performance, cutting-edge technology and a commanding presence to redefine what an SUV can be. With its history of more than 70 years, the Patrol perfectly embodies our corporate purpose of ‘Driving innovation to enrich people's lives.’”
The All-New Nissan Patrol will be available at Nissan’s partner network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East region starting from Nov. 1.
