Peugeot's Refreshed One-Ton Pickup Targets Sales in Non-Euro Markets

Peugeot Landtrek gets more powerful turbodiesel engine option and claims largest cargo bed capacity in class.

Peugeot unveils its facelifted Landtrek one-ton pickup truck aimed at emerging markets now with a more powerful turbodiesel engine option.

The model, also marketed as the Ram 1200 in Mexico, targets commercial users in the brand’s traditional non-European markets in the Middle East, Africa and South America.

Its new engine option is a 2,184-cc turbodiesel Stellantis Multijet 4-cyl. claiming 200 hp and a torque output of 331 lb.-ft. (449 Nm).

This power plant is coupled with a new EAT8 8-speed automatic gearbox equipped with an electronic control for easier gear selection and efficient engine torque management. A 6-speed manual transmission is also available with this engine option.

This model also claims payloads of up to 1,400 kg (3,080 lbs.) and a towing capacity of 3,500 kg (7,700 lbs.), 500 kg (1,100 lbs.) more than other powertrain options.

Existing engine versions will also be offered to customers, including a 1.9L turbodiesel with its 150 hp and 248 lb.-ft. (336 Nm) of torque using the 6-speed manual gearbox and a 2.4L gasoline version producing 210 hp and 236 lb.-ft. (320 Nm) of torque available with the extra option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The latest model has also grown in size and claims the most spacious cargo bed in its segment, with a width of 4 ft. (1.22 m) between wheel arches.

In its largest cargo bed configuration of a single cab, the model offers space for three Euro pallets with a bed of 8 ft. x 5.2 ft. x 1.64 ft. (2.43 m x 1.6 m x 500 mm)

Technology in the new powertrain option includes permanent 4-wheel drive with Normal, Sport, Snow and Sand modes. It also has electric power steering, and a dedicated central display for off-road driving displaying information on transmission and differential status, driving mode, vehicle tilt, etc.
