Vauxhall/Opel Brings 'Affordable' Electric SUV to Europe
Stellantis brands to market entry-level midsize Frontera SUV in both BEV and hybrid versions by year's end.
Stellantis joint brands Vauxhall/Opel release the starting price for its new battery-electric Frontera SUV at below the significant €30,000 ($32,200) level in Europe.
Priced in Germany from €28,990 ($31,117) that’s just a little more than €5,000 ($5,366) more than the hybrid version of the Frontera at €23,900 ($25,654).
On top of previous specifications released earlier this year, the automaker tells us its electric powertrain claims a range of up to 190 miles (306 km) on the European WLTP rating and a combined energy consumption 18.5 kWh/100 km with zero tailpipe emissions. It will also be available in a Long Range version, claiming a maximum range of 248 miles (399 km) between charges.
Meanwhile, the Frontera Hybrid uses a mild 48V hybrid powertrain system employing a 100-hp 1.2L gasoline turbocharged engine developed for hybrid use. This operates in combination with a 28-hp electric motor and an electrified 6-speed dual-clutch transmission claiming lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of 43 mpg (5.5 L/100 km) and 126 g/km respectively. In addition, there’s the option of a more powerful 136-hp 1.2L turbo engine priced from €25,700. The models are expected in European showrooms later this year.
Opel CEO Florian Huettl says: “Our new Frontera offers great packaging and value for money. The rugged interpretation of our bold and pure design philosophy combined with the highly competitive prices for the all-electric or electrified version will delight customers. This newcomer shows our ambition to further democratize electromobility.”
