Toyota Thailand Sends First Shipment of New Hilux to Export Markets
The revamped pickup is bound for more than 100 countries.
Toyota Thailand begins exports of its all-new Hilux with a dockside ceremony as the first units are loaded for shipment around the world.
Toyota Managing Officer Kyoichi Tanada, in Thailand for the pickup’s launch, says the automaker will export the new Hilux to more than 100 countries.
With the debut of the new Hilux Revo, replacing the Hilux Vigo double-cab, he is looking to expand production in Thailand.
“We are maximizing our production capacity to meet customer demands, which will contribute to increased production units of Toyota Motor Thailand and steer us to be the leader standing at the forefront of the pickup truck market eventually,” Tanada says in a statement.
He says this success will come from “the determination and devotion” to develop the Hilux pickup in every aspect from the production research and development to human-resources development.
Toyota has invested more than 50 billion baht ($1.5 billion) in Thailand, and its technology transfer to the country has contributed to the development of the automotive industry as an important mechanism to stimulate the local economy sustainably, Tanada says.
“I am confident that the new Hilux will be a crucial factor driving Thailand’s economy to the promising future,” he says.
