Jaguar Moves ’22 F-Type Lineup to V-8 Only
In 2018, Jaguar began offering a 2.0L turbo-4, which accounted for 39% of sales in 2020, making it the most popular engine offered alongside the 3.0L V-6 (36% of sales) and 5.0L V-8 (25% of sales), according to Wards Intelligence data.

Despite its tumultuous history, Jaguar has maintained a strong performance focus with at least a few of its models over the years.
One of them, the F-Type, is the automaker’s flagship performance car, and it’s getting a revised engine lineup to further bolster its sporting credentials.
Jaguar announces the 2022 F-Type will move to an all-V-8 lineup, which both simplifies the car’s powertrain options and makes it more powerful in its base form.
The previous F-Type could be had with anything from a turbocharged 4-cyl. to a supercharged V-6 to a supercharged V-8. Even so, the move to a V-8-only lineup for the F-Type should be welcomed by enthusiasts.
The base F-Type P450 will derive 444 hp and 428 lb.-ft. (580 Nm) of torque from its supercharged 5.0L V-8, which will be good enough for a Jaguar-claimed 4.4-second 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time.
The F-Type R will see 575 hp from a high-output version of the same 5.0L supercharged V-8, which will propel it to 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds.
When Jaguar launched the two-seat F-Type in 2013, the 5.0L supercharged V-8 was more popular than the 3.0L supercharged V-6, splitting the mix 60% to 40%, according to Wards Intelligence data.
But in 2016 and 2017, the V-6 was more popular, accounting for more than 60% of sales. In 2018, Jaguar began offering a 2.0L turbo-4, which accounted for 39% of sales in 2020, making it the most popular engine offered alongside the V-6 (36% of sales) and V-8 (25% of sales), according to Wards Intelligence data.
Interior and exterior styling upgrades made for ’21 will remain in place, along with a new infotainment system (pictured below). That means a 10.0-in. (25-cm) infotainment touchscreen that runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless device charging.
Jaguar says the cars will come standard with 20-in. wheels, an active exhaust system and an innovative Quiet Start feature. To keep the neighbors happy, the F-Type will automatically close its active exhaust for a much quieter startup. Once the car is in motion, the exhaust automatically will open and allow more growl.
Other standard features for the P450 include a 12.3-in. digital gauge cluster, leather upholstery and a large central tachometer.
The ’22 Jaguar F-Type P450 has a starting price of $69,900 with RWD and $79,900 with AWD. The F-Type R will remain priced at $103,200. A destination charge of $1,150 will apply. Jaguar hasn’t detailed the car’s release date at this time.
