JLR Taps Elektrobit for Next-Gen Automotive Operating System

Elektrobit, the software specialist owned by German Tier 1 Continental, says it will supply its software platform and Automotive Operating System offering to Jaguar Land Rover.

Elektrobit defines the Automotive Operating System as a software platform that abstracts the vehicle network of electronic control units as one device, sharing vehicle resources between vehicle functions.

JLR will use the software as the basis for its next-generation EVA Continuum electrical/electronic architecture that will underpin its full line of vehicles beginning 2024.

The deal marks another key win for Elektrobit, which worked closely with Sony on the smart-cabin software for the upcoming Sony Honda Mobility Afeela sedan shown in January at CES 2023 in Las Vegas and has centered its business growth strategy on providing somewhat turnkey Automotive OS layers to automakers in order to speed the transition to the software-defined vehicle.

This isn’t the first time JLR is leaning on Elektrobit. The automaker has previously used the supplier’s software and solutions to develop electronic control units.
