Renault reaches back to an iconic past model in the redesign of its battery-electric Renault 4 E-Tech set to debut at the Paris Motor Show 2024 later this month.
The model, a reworking of its famous Renault 4 compact station wagon produced between 1961 to 1994, hopes to tap into the popularity of the old model that saw total global sales in excess of 8 million units.
This B-segment BEV retains a compact road presence measuring just 13.6-ft. (4,145-mm) long as a slightly larger stablemate to the urban-focused Renault 5 E-Tech. It uses the same AmpR Small platform and will be built at Renault’s plant in Maubeuge, France. The automaker plans to bring the car to market next year.
Teaser pictures show several design cues that hark back to the old model including a grille, now very aerodynamic in the BEV mold, that features a Renault emblem in the center face.
Other cues include three-part, pill-shaped taillights, trapezoidal quarter widows, a retractable fabric sunroof and front and rear bumpers that come with vertical overriders to echo the original’s chromed steel versions.
