The Tesla Model Y has been a cornerstone of Tesla’s success since its debut and in 2024 emerged as the best-selling electric vehicle globally. The automaker now introduces the 2025 version, codenamed “Juniper,” in a significant refresh designed to solidify its dominance.
The 2025 Model Y builds on the foundation of the outgoing model, blending practicality, performance and advanced technology at a competitive price point. The Juniper refresh features a sleeker, more aerodynamic design, improved battery technology and interior updates.
The front fascia is restyled with slimmer headlights and a revised bumper that enhances its aerodynamics, along with redesigned, lower-drag wheels. The coefficient of drag is reduced to 0.23, down from the outgoing model’s 0.27.
Tesla incorporates its next-generation 4680 battery cells in the new model, featuring higher energy density and faster charging. This extends the range of the Long Range variant to 360 miles (579 km), up 30 miles (48 km) compared with the 2024 model. The Performance variant, optimized for speed and power, achieves a range of 320 miles (515 km).
Charging speeds improve, with the updated Model Y capable of adding up to 200 miles (322 km) of range in just 15 minutes at Tesla’s V4 Supercharger stations.
The interior is been revamped a bit with ambient lighting and a more immersive infotainment display, featuring a 15-in. (38.1-cm) touchscreen. Passengers in the rear seat also benefit from an 8-in. (20.3-cm) display.
Tesla’s new “Smart Zone” HVAC system provides improved air filtration and personalized climate control.
Tesla says the dual-motor AWD system has been recalibrated for smoother power delivery and enhanced traction. The Performance variant, the company says, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.4 seconds, while the Long Range version achieves the same in 4.6 seconds.
In 2024, Tesla sold an estimated 800,000-plus Model Ys globally, with the U.S. market accounting for nearly half of these sales. Tesla does not report model specific sales numbers. The base Model Y starts at $48,000, while the Long Range and Performance variants are priced at $54,000 and $61,000, respectively. For the "Launch Series," Tesla is pricing the new Model Y Long Range AWD at $59,999 USD. That’s $12,000 more than the previous Model Y Long Range AWD, which is still available to order.
