European commercial drivers offered L2 automated driving with the heavy-duty Movano.

Europe’s Vauxhall/Opel brand is rolling out advanced driver-assistance systems to its commercial customers, adding surround vehicle vision and Level 2 automated driving capabilities.

The brand’s Combo and Vivaro van models now boast Dynamic Surround Vision which combines two cameras, one above the rear doors and another under the passenger-side exterior mirror, with a high-definition rearview mirror.

Working off the indicator stalk, when the cameras are activated images of the rear view and side blindspot are displayed as two separate images in the rearview mirror. The system is designed to help drivers maneuver and make turns easier and safer, reducing the risk of colliding with other vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians.

The brand’s heavy-duty commercial Movano van model gets adaptive cruise control with Level 2 automated driving. This system combines lane assistance, traffic jam assist and electric power steering.

Level 2 automated driving means the vehicle can brake, accelerate and steer itself at speeds of up to 18.6 mph (30 km/h) although the driver’s hands remain on the steering wheel at all times.

A driver monitor alert system warns the driver to take a break after longer periods at the controls. The Movano’s ADAS package also includes Traffic Sign Recognition, Forward Collision Alert with Emergency Braking and Parking Assist.
