VW Launches Pilot Output of Amarok in Germany
Volume production begins in June. Plans call for output of 185 Amaroks a day, or about 40,000 annually.
VIENNA – Volkswagen christens a new assembly line for its Amarok pickup in Hannover, Germany.
The facility joins the Volkswagen plant in Pacheco, Argentina, in building the small truck, output of which was launched in November 2009.
“With the two Amarok locations at Pacheco in Argentina and Hannover in the heart of Europe, we have achieved effective regional deployment,” Wolfgang Schreiber, CEO of Volkswagen’s commercial-vehicles division, says in a prepared statement.
Currently, Volkswagen is running pilot production of the Amarok in Hannover, with start of volume output scheduled for late June.
Plans call for assembly of 185 Amaroks a day, or about 40,000 annually. German-built Amaroks will be destined mainly for Europe and Africa.
In addition to the Amarok, VW produces T5 commercial vans, as well as bodies for the Porsche Panamera in Hannover.
“We have high capacity utilization, we are productive and profitable,” Schreiber says of the German facility.
Volkswagen Argentina manufactured 76,965 Amaroks last year, up 72.9% from 2010.
