Volkswagen releases a teaser shot of its latest SUV concept ahead of its Beijing auto show debut next weekend.
The concept is billed as the automaker’s new “high-tech direction” in the premium SUV segment, signaling the path for its next-gen Touareg model. The design is said to lean toward both sporty and elegant.
The show vehicle is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain delivering 376 hp and 516 lb.-ft. (700 Nm) of torque. It has an electric-only range of 31 miles (50 km) and has a projected fuel economy of 78 mpg (3.0 L/100 km) on the European drive cycle.
Top speed for the concept is said to be 139 mph and 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration is listed at 6.0 seconds.
The show vehicle also features the next step in Volkswagen’s digitalization, with what the automaker says is a merging of the active information display and infotainment system into a new passenger-centric concept.
