An American OEM awards Pierburg Pump Technology US, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall Automotive, orders with a lifetime volume of about $152 million (€140 million), the German supplier says.

The orders are for two types of pumps for gasoline engines. Both are manufactured in Celaya, Mexico, where production of one began in fall 2019 and the other is set to start this year.

One of the products ordered is a tandem pump, a combined oil and fuel pump partly developed by Pierburg Pump Technology US in Auburn Hills, MI.

The other component is a variable oil pump. Rheinmetall says their biggest advantage is that their output can be flexibly adapted to the required oil flow, depending on the temperature, rotational speed and load status of the engine.

Both models contribute to greater fuel efficiency and a reduction in harmful emissions, the company says.
