Lexus Refreshes ES Luxury Sedan for 2022 Model Year
Highlights of the refreshed ’22 ES include new touchscreen functionality and positioning of the Lexus Multimedia Display, while the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is updated to standard on all trim levels.
Lexus announces it has refreshed its seventh-generation ES luxury sedan for the 2022 model year with multimedia, safety, style and color updates.
Highlights include new touchscreen functionality and positioning of the Lexus Multimedia Display; the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 updated to standard on all trim levels; and newly designed bi-LED headlights with standard dynamic headlight auto-leveling.
Also new for MY22 is an available Dynamic Handling Package on gasoline-powered F Sport models. A new ES 300h F Sport trim, focused on exterior and interior styling, will be available in select regions, Lexus says.
Exterior design updates to the ’22 ES include a new grille pattern on all trims excluding the ES F Sport. The new mesh pattern comprises a series of concentric L shapes that radiate from the front Lexus emblem, all finished in a new Graphite paint.
The concept of blending a driver-centric cockpit with spacious and comfortable areas for the passengers (pictured below, left), a concept introduced in the LC coupe and refined in the flagship LS sedan, has been expanded to the seventh-generation ES, Lexus says.
The refreshed ES features updates to the Lexus Multimedia System and available navigation system. The standard 8.0-in. (20-cm) and available 12.3-in. (31-cm) multimedia displays have been moved forward 4.3 ins. (11 cm) and now feature touchscreen functionality, in addition to the remote touch interface, for intuitive driver and front passenger interaction. Additional interior updates include a streamlined instrument panel design.
Enhancements to the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 (LSS+ 2.5) include improvements to the pre-collision system, which includes frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and bicyclist detection, and the addition of intersection turning assist, which under certain conditions can recognize an oncoming vehicle when performing a left-hand turn, or a pedestrian when turning left or right.

Performance updates include a new rear suspension member brace to further enhance torsional rigidity, handling stability and ride comfort. On ES gas models, the vacuum brake system master cylinder and booster have been optimized to provide a more linear brake pedal feeling and response. The regenerative and hydraulic brake control characteristics of the electronically controlled brake system on ES hybrid models have been optimized to improve pedal feeling when the brake pedal is released, Lexus says.
For buyers looking for additional performance, the ES 350 F Sport will offer an all-new Dynamic Handling Package that includes Sport+ and Custom Drive modes, intuitive parking assist and an adaptive variable suspension system capable of 650 levels of adjustment to deliver optimal ride quality and precise control.
“Our goal was to deepen the high quality of the ES and to add new value,” says Lexus International Chief Engineer Tetsuya Aoki. “In addition to further improving quietness and ride comfort, we pursued linearity in vehicle movement, in response to steering wheel operation, that is faithful to the driver’s intentions.”
More information regarding pricing, options, and exterior and interior color choices will be made available closer to launch. The ’22 ES is expected to arrive in dealerships this fall.
