Toyota Motor Mfg. Alabama Inc. begins production of the new 5.7L V-8 engine being installed in Toyota’s new ’07 Tundra fullsize pickup truck.
Delayed production of the new V-8, which makes 381 hp in the Tundra, was the reason behind Toyota Tundra’s sales launch in February.
Toyota officials said last year they wanted each dealer to have at least one Tundra with the new V-8 in stock at the start of sale, which is Feb. 5.
TMMAL also makes the 4.0L V-6 and 4.7L V-8 available in the ’07 Tundra. However, at 150,000 units annually, the 5.7L V-8 has the most capacity of the three engines.
Toyota says it has invested $490 million in the Huntsville plant.
